Building Policy
The project developed Eco- Niwas Samhita (ENS Part I: Building envelope), India’s first energy efficiency code on residential buildings. The project supported BEE for the development of ENS and later supported its implementation through the development of compliance tool and ENS solution set documents. The ENS has also been mentioned as a key reference document in the India Cooling Action Plan (ICAP) 2019.
The design guidelines developed by the project for the design of energy-efficient multi-storey residential buildings for all major climatic regions of the country were highlighted in the Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) submitted by the Government of India in the run-up to the Paris Climate Change Conference in 2015.
